Is it true that you can be fired if your resume is inaccurate?

You can bite the dust if you lie on your resume or job application or in an interview. But it's the job application that you sign as being true that's the biggest risk. What employers do is use this lie - the After-Acquired Evidence Theory - to justify firing you for any reason.
But if push comes to shove in court, the employer must show that the misinformation is related to your job performance, that you would have been fired or would not have been hired if the employer had known the truth. And this is a very difficult thing to prove.
Which untruths pop up most often? Dates of employment that are off by more than three months. Other fibs: claims of college degrees, false employers and jobs that never existed.
