What should an executive do once receiving a job offer?

Before you agree to the offer, make sure that you get the offer in writing in the form of an acceptance letter or employment contract- whichever is most appropriate.

Make sure that there are no outstanding contingencies (medical or reference checking, etc.) that would cause the offer to be rescinded before turning in your resignation. Some executives try to raise the offer by asking for additional perks before accepting- now is the time to negotiate any final changes.

Before accepting any position, executives should do a lot of due diligence -- meet as many people as possible in the firm, preferably out of the office, to make sure the organization is the right place for you.

Once the decision has been made public knowledge, make sure to thank all those that helped you- such as your list of references.
