Image is everything.
There is no denying that one's personal appearance is key to making the right impression.
Whether on an interview, meeting a client or simply communicating with peers and subordinates, appearance makes a difference. Dressing for success means knowing what not to do as well as what to do with your attire. Unless you are given specific instructions to dress casually, interviews follow a conservative standard and require you to be well dressed and groomed.
If you are not sure what is acceptable, contact the employer's HR department prior to your visit for input and always error on being more formal than informal.
