I really need the job. How do I keep from looking too desperate?
There is a fine line between eager and desperate. Show your eagerness by doing your homework and relating your experience to the job, but don't tell them how broke you are or how much you need the work no matter how badly you need the work. Tell them you can start immediately, but don't tell them you have to get back to work right away.
