How necessary are psychological tests or assessment tests to a new hire?

There is controversy surrounding the idea of testing as a screening tool in hiring a new executive. Although most construction employers prior to hiring an executive conduct some form of psychological testing, testing is not a complete science, and should not be used as the sole determinant in hiring. Unfortunately, there are documented cases where executives will get tested by different psychologists and obtain different results and recommendations.
